Project Introduction — Korgan Desalination Plant (Minab County, Hormozgan Province)

Project Title: Design, Construction, and Implementation of the Korgan Desalination Plant
Location: Korgan, Minab County, Hormozgan Province
Technology: SWRO (Seawater Reverse Osmosis)
Final Capacity: 5,000 m³/day
Phase 1 Operation: 2,500 m³/day (Phase 1 has been commissioned and is operational)
Concurrent Studies: Water supply resource studies for the Khorasan Petrochemical Complex

Project Summary

Implementation of a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination unit aimed at supplying potable and industrial water to the Minab region and supporting the water needs of industrial complexes, including petrochemical facilities. The project is planned in two phases: Phase 1 with a capacity of 2,500 m³/day has been completed and commissioned, while the completion of Phase 2 will increase the capacity to 5,000 m³/day. Concurrently, water supply resource studies (withdrawal, intake, quality, and sustainability) have been conducted for the Khorasan Petrochemical Complex.

Major Objectives

  • Provide a sustainable and high-quality water supply to mitigate regional water scarcity.

  • Support process and consumption water requirements of regional industrial complexes, including petrochemical facilities.

  • Implement SWRO technology focusing on energy efficiency and operational cost reduction.

  • Establish a sustainable infrastructure for future development (capacity expansion, connection to local distribution networks).

Key Technical Specifications

  • Main Technology: Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) unit with appropriate pre-treatment and post-treatment systems.

  • Design Capacity: Final phase 5,000 m³/day; Phase 1 2,500 m³/day.

  • Main Components: Seawater intake station, pre-treatment (sand/carbon filtration and anti-scalant dosing), high-pressure pumps, RO membrane skids, energy recovery systems (if applicable), chlorination/dechlorination systems, storage tanks, and transmission pipelines.

  • Quality Standards: Compliance with national and international drinking water standards and petrochemical process requirements (TDS, hardness, microbiology, organics, metals).

  • Sustainability & Energy: Analysis of energy recovery potential and optimization of electricity consumption; recommendations for reducing energy use and O&M costs.
